Like many of you, I expect, I watched ‘The Sound of Music’ on BBC1 on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve. I am old enough to remember watching it at the cinema with my mother and sisters, in the days when long films had an interval.

Even as a young girl my favourite song was ‘Climb Every Mountain’, sung by the Abbess to Maria when Maria was unsure of what direction her life should take. The lyrics are very simple, but as with many words of wisdom, less is more.

Climb every mountain,
Search high and low,
Follow every highway,
Every path you know.                                                   Himalayan View

Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
‘Till you find your dream.

A dream that will need
All the love you can give,
Every day of your life
For as long as you live.

As we look forward to a new year of opportunities and challenges it reminds us to focus on what our dream is and if we haven’t found it yet, to keep searching.

Wishing you a very Happy New Year
